Integers
←-------------------------------------------------------→
-3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3
← Left (-) → Right (+)
Negative value Positive Value
Decreases Increase
All whole numbers and their negative values are Integer numbers.
Absolute Value
Absolute Value is the distances between 0(zero) and the number given.
| 3 | ←--------------------------→ | 3 | = 3
0 1 2 3
| -3 | ←--------------------------→ | -3 | = 3
-3 -2 -1 0
- | 3 | = You multiply (-1) times | 3 | absolute value of 3. | 3 | = 3 * (-1) = -3
Add Integer
Same Signs → you add the numbers and take the sign.
-2 + -2 = -4 ( 2+2 is 4 and the sign is (-) )
+2 + +2 = 4 ( 2+2 is 4 and the sign is (+) )
Different signs → subtract the numbers and take the sign of the highest absolute value of the number.
-2 + +4 = +2 ; (4 – 2 = 2) highest absolute number is 4 which is positive (+)
Subtract Integer
(1)Change the subtraction sign to an addition sign, (2) then change the integer sign next to the subtraction sign that you just changed to the opposite sign, (3) follow the addition integer rules
Ex:{ -2 – (-3) = (1)} -2 + (-3) = -2 + (+3) = -2+ (+3) = +1 { different signs subtract and take the highest absolute value sign which is a positive}
Multiply Integer
Same sign positive (+) Even amount of negative signs will give you a positive result
Different sign negative (-) odd amount of negative signs will give you a negative result
Exponent
a ³ ← exponent
↑
Base
Base is what repeats, the exponent tells how many times
Multiply
a² * a⁴ = a⁶ add your exponents
Divide
a⁷ ÷ a³ = a⁴ Subtract your exponents
Zero
a⁰ = 1 always equals 1 except 0⁰ undefined
Negative
a⁻⁴ = 1/a⁴ do the reciprocal change to positive
Power
(a²)³ = multiply exponent and power
