A Conquering People
God's people conquered Canaan. Page 120-121
Book of Deuteronomy (5th book) God's people must love God and be obedient to him when they enter into and live in the promised land. In this book Moses said farewell to his people and Joshua took over.
The Book of Joshua deals with the Israelites entering into Canaan. They conquered and entered Canaan. The Israelites struggled with Canaanites and the very famous event "The Fall of Jericho" are in this book. they did not attack, break down the walls, or attack the city's army. They just followed God's Instruction.

After they conquered Canaan, they divided the land into 12 tribes by casting lots and rules were agreed upon. After the land was divided they went to a religious shrine and renewed their covenant with God. They stayed for 200 years. The rest is in the book of Judges.
The people:
- Turned away from the one true God
- God allowed tribes to rule over the Israelites and then the they cried from help
- God sent a military leader named Deborah, to save the Israelites and rule over the land as God directed
"Samson was the most famous judge " (Page 124-125)
Samson was conceived from God and Zorah birth him. He will begin the deliverance of Israel from the power of the Philistines. Samson will be gifted with strength but if his head is shaved then he will lose the strength. Because Samson was a Nazirite he kept special promises or vows. Samson's first wife was killed by the Philistine and then he married another Philistine woman named Delilah. The Philistines wanted to capture Samson so they paid Delilah to tell them Samson's special gift "Strength" She betrayed Samson and shaved his hair and called the Philistines and they captured him. The story of Samson symbolized the Israelite nation of his time. Samson's birth was the result of God's guiding hand.
"Ruth lived a life of self-sacrifice" (page 126-127)
The Book of Ruth is the (8th) book in the bible, the writer shows God's presence in the events of daily life and how faithful she was to her mother in law. In the stories of Ruth the writer shows us that sadness can be turned into joy even in difficult times
