A Prosperous People
Solomon's reign was a time of peace and prosperity (page 144-145)
When King David died, his son Solomon succeeded him as king. Under his rule Israel achieved its greatest peace and prosperity. His story is in the first eleven chapters of the First book of Kings and the first nine chapters of the Second Book of Chronicles.
Solomon's reign was a time of peace so there was no wars. He made treaties or agreement with other kings and queens. During this time Israel was richer than it had ever been before. King Solomon began a great building program. Buildings were built, art, Ivory cavings, carpentry, stonework, jewelry making, and Literature became popular and this beautify the land.
Solomon gained fame for his wisdom (page 146-147)
When God came to Solomon in a dream God ask him what he would want and Solomon reply that he wanted a understanding heart. He was tested when two women came to him about who does the baby belong to then he answered wisely. This sotry helps us to understand the importance of wisdom.
The Temple was built in Jerusalem (Page 148-149)
Solomon built a Temple, it had two rooms the sanctuary and the nave. The ark of the covenant was guided by angels "Cherubim). The high priest was the only one allowed in the Sanctuary. The nave contained the small altar for burning incense. The temple symbolized God's permanent presence among his Chosen People in the premised land. this building of the Temple in Jerusalem was Solomon's greatest achievement.
The psalms teach us how to pray (page 150-151)
Psalms are an important part of the liturgical life of all Christians and are in the Old Testament. They help us to pray and deepen our relationship with God.
There are many different types of psalms;
Royal Psalms : celebrate various occasions in the reign of a king, a wedding, the messiah, or a victory
Hymns praising God and Zion: public worship, focus on God's power and the glory of Zion.
Laments: a poem or song expressing sorrow, mourning, or regret.
Wisdom Poems: they are designed for teaching rather than encouraging prayer.
Song of Songs: collection of love poems, the lord is the one who loves and the Israelites are his beloved. It contains some of the most beautiful love poems ever written.
